Which plate types do you recommend?

The LUTHOR single cell dispenser is primarily designed for usage with 96-well plates.

It is also possible to use it with 8-tube strips, 12-tube strips, and 384-well plates. In this case, please contact our technical support team at support@lexogen.com.

For 96-well plates, you can use non-skirted, semi-skirted, and full-skirted plates, with both standard or low profiles.

Non-skirted and semi-skirted plates will require a specific adapter provided with the instrument. The adapter is to be positioned onto the metal frame of the instrument.

Fully-skirted plates can be readily positioned directly onto the metal frame of the instrument, without any additional adapter.

The software will offer you two programs: one for fully-skirted plates, and a second one for non-skirted and half-skirted plates.

IMPORTANT: Well bottom of the plates should be round shaped or conical, and not flat. This is due to the low volume (5 µl) of lysis buffer used to collect the cells during dispensing.

Any plate meeting ANSI/SLAS 1-2004 (footprint) and 4-2004 (well position) standards will be compatible with the LUTHOR single cell dispenser. For more information about these standards: https://www.slas.org/education/ansi-slas-microplate-standards/.

Aside from their format, it is highly recommended that plates are certified to be:

  • Free of DNA and RNA

  • DNase-free and RNase-free

  • Low binding (if disclosed by manufacturer)

NOTE: Similar recommendations also apply for the pipette tips.
